Skill Assessment - Transport Ventilator Setup

States Contraindications and Relative Contraindications of procedure.
Preparation
Clinical Standards for Procedures and Interventions.
Ensures emergency equipment is ready: BVM, oxygen cylinders with regulators, suction, transport ventilator with charged battery, circuits, monitoring cables.
Assessment
Assesses vital signs.
Assesses transport risk, battery life, backup airway plan, and staffing needs.
Implementation
Verifies compressed-gas tank pressures and adequate oxygen for planned duration.
Performs ventilator pre-use check, alarm test, and confirms device settings.
Secures equipment and cylinders; applies continuous monitoring (SpO2, ETCO2) for transport.
Transfers patient to the transport ventilator and places the primary ventilator in standby mode.
Monitoring & Modifications
Ensures adequate ventilation and oxygenation before initiating transport.
Monitors tolerance and device function; adjusts per response; discontinues or initiates emergency response if adverse reactions occur. Notifies provider of event.
Post-Intervention
After transport, returns patient to previous device and settings; performs full ventilator assessment.
